BEAN SOUP (BOONTJIE)

Ingredients

  • Mutton shanks– 3 pcs or ham bone (with some meat on it) – 1 pc
  • Sugar beans – 200 g
  • Rashers bacon (finely chopped)– 3 pcs
  • Cold water – 1,5 L
  • Butter (or margarine) – 30 g
  • Medium-sized onion (finely chopped) – 1 pcs
  • Celery (finely chopped)– 2 stalks
  • Medium-sized carrot (thinly sliced) – 1 pc
  • Salt, black pepper – to taste

Directions

Soak beans in cold water overnight.

Put butter/margarine in multicooker – Bowl, Press the “Menu” button, select the “Fry” program. Let the butter/ margarine melt or until it is hot. 3-5 minutes. Sauté the onion, celery and carrot in butter for 8-10 minutes disable the programme by pressing the “Cancel” button. Remove vegetables from the bowl and clean it.

Pour water into the MC – bowl, add meat and bacon. Press the “Menu” button, select the “Soup” program and set the cooking time for 1 hour 30 minutes. By pressing “Time” button and adjust the “Hour” and “Minutes”.  Simmer for 1 hour until meat is tender. Then add the prepared vegetables, beans and simmer for another 20 -30 minutes. Remove the meat and bones, discard the bones and cut meat into the cubes. In a separate bowl, puree the remains of the sauce and add cubed meat. Put salt and pepper to taste.

Then add the prepared vegetables, beans and simmer for another 20 -30 minutes. Remove the meat and bones, discard the bones and cut meat into the cubes. In a separate bowl, puree the remains of the sauce and add cubed meat. Season with salt and pepper.

Let the butter/ margarine melt for about 3-5 minutes. Sauté the onion, celery and carrot for 8-10 minutes. Then disable the program by pressing the “Cancel” button. Remove vegetables from the bowl and clean it.

Pour water into the multicooker bowl, add meat and bacon. Press the “Menu” button, select the “Soup” program and set the cooking time to 1 hour 30 minutes.  Simmer for 1 hour until meat is tender. Then add the prepared vegetables, beans and simmer for another 20-30 minutes. Remove the meat and bones, discard the bones and cut meat into small pieces.

In a separate bowl, puree the remains of the sauce and add meat pieces. Season with salt and pepper.
